Law's interdiscplinary research interests include semiology, generative theories of music, and the relationship between music and linguistics. Law's senior thesis at the Cleveland Institute of Music is advised by Dr. Diane Urista. He has been a guest lecturer as part of CIM's Theory Colloquium and has served as a theory tutor at CIM and the Interlochen Arts Academy. His senior thesis is concerned with the impact of linguistic nationalism on Maurice Duruflé's "Requiem, Op. 9". Garrett has been a member of the Society for Music theory since August of 2016.
