Garrett studies carillon with George Leggiero, who has served as Church of the Covenant's and University Circle's Carillonneur since 1973. In July of 2017, Garrett was awarded a "Traditional Arts Apprenticeship" grant from the Ohio Arts Council. This apprenticeship will include lessons, study trips, performances, and work towards professional certification from the Guild of Carillonneurs of North America. The apprenticeship will conclude in the summer of 2018 with a public exhibition which happens to coincide with the McGaffin Memorial Carillon's 50th anniversary. Located in University Circle, the McGaffin Memorial Carillon provides Cleveland's most distinguished cultural neighborhood with free public concerts on a weekly basis. The instrument is 1 of 200 carillons in North America and 1 of 10 carillons in the state of Ohio.
